How I can create and run a game server? Linux? CPU? Ram?
I'm just getting my feet wet with PC games and I'm looking to build a server game with some spare parts around the house … AMD 1700 +, 512 MB RAM, 40 gig hard drive, wireless high-speed cable. I prefer to use Linux operating system (SuSE), so woundn't have to pay for the windows. I'm not looking to build anything more, just to run servers dedicated to Half Life, Counter Strike and Halo (not all at once). Is this possible with this hardware? If not, what will I need? You need more RAM, espcially if you want many people. Do you have an address Static IP? If not, then you need a dynamic DNS software sites like http://www.dyndns.com/. But why bother with a server. If only your friends, use hamachi (http://www.hamachi.cc/)
