Detailed review of the solution online backup Carbonite
Description and History
Carbonite is located in Boston, MA and initially offered online backup utility in the first half of 2006. It is now backup and protect more than 2.5 million files in over 100 countries. They were founded in 2005 by David Friend and Jeff Flowers. Carbonite is a simple, secure backup program online for home users unfussy, students, home users, business trips, etc. For less than $ 5 each month, Carbonite all vital information files on the computer (digital photos, mp3s, documents and other vital records) every time the desktop is connected to the Internet. Carbonite is really painful to initialize and use, requiring very little modification current user. The solution to online backup is designed to store constantly altered files from your computer each time you connect to the Internet.
Feature Set
Security
Carbonite security is delightfully high. When sending data back and forth from your computer and servers is encrypted with Triple DES – which is very strong – and when on their servers that your data is protected with 448bit Blowfish – which is the best protection available. Storage your data is carried out on 2-date facilities located in Massachusetts that offer rooms carefully controlled temperature, standby power generators, restricted access to personnel, and many other features to protect the security and integrity of files.
Backup Functions
By Carbonite backs up the default "My Documents and Settings folder, but this simply may be altered in the desktop program. No limit the number of files to be copied, so you can choose as many or as few files as you want. File will start when the computer is not busy, so there is no loss of resources or bandwidth. However, you can use the backup scheduler to backup as often as you want. Carbonite does not support backup network or external drives. During our tests needed thirty-seven minutes to load 2,000 megabytes of information through a normal 8 Mbps ADSL line while sending and receiving data over the Internet and others. Carbonite installation uses a continuous backup which means that data is increasingly supports that are altered. This means that you no longer need to rely on the programming of control file and turn on your laptop when it's scheduled time. However, if scheduling is what you want, the PC client has that option also. The backup progress can be monitored by a progress bar included. Additionally you can add files and folders to the backup list by right-clicking. Carbonite service creates a "virtual drive letter" where you can see what you have backed security and are waiting for backup. The manager also noted colored dots in the archives to see if archived, waiting for backup or not included in the calendar list. The PC client allows unlimited 'file version' for three months. There are also no restrictions on the size of individual files or the amount of information you can backup. But it is important to note that the initial time backup requires more than is necessary when underway and the first backup is finished.
The restoration of facilities
File restores can be configured from the client or portal web and can be restored – by default – its original location, a location on the desktop alternaive from or on the web portal. In the PC edition, recovery Files can also be started by right-clicking a file or folder. There is also a search option so you can search for restoring files that match with a file name or specific file name pattern.
Control and Analysis
The website provides central control for all clients are being archived. Resources and loading / unloading can be adapted for use between high and low. Reports are generated to verify what is a backup.
Interface
To use Carbonite client software must be installed Carbonite each device to be archived. But the installation once all the backups can be managed from a central management portal. Many devices can be managed through a single account, however, managing multiple accounts is not compatible. A Once the client software is running, allowing access to a virtual drive letter that can be designed to monitor the status of the archived folders and restore files. The icon in the system tray is initially yellow – this indicates that the initial backup is running. When the initial backup is done, tray icon turns green. The client software is very organized and use. The website is equally clear. The utility is configured to set and forget what the screen not clogged with lots of options, but are designed to allow selecting what and when you want to archive and then allow the program to just do it.
Device Support
There is support for PC and MAC. It is not an iPhone, iTouch, and Blackberry IPAD however, these applications only allow you to view information filed, not really back up the iPhone, etc. You can attach files in the backup set in the emails. There is no limit to the number of computers that – MAC or PC – can be a backup.
Limitations
Network drives and external drives can not be filed there is a level not block the ability incremental backup Carbonite is a tool for PC and MAC file, so no file server databases such as SQL Server, Exchange Server. Open or files of use can not be filed until they are no longer in use. All backup machine is not compatible. Proxies are not allowed.
